Real Chicken

Today Josh brought home a rottisary chicken for dinner and set it up on the counter. Taylor walked in, saw it, and asked what that was. Josh replied that it was chicken.

Taylor stared at it for a while and seemed very confused. He asked why it had bones and looked like that, and Josh explained that dead chickens look like that. Taylor asked several more questions and finally declared that he was not going to eat a real chicken. Apparently, he never knew that the boneless chicken that we usually eat was made from a real chicken.

Taylor had a very difficult time eating dinner. He kept saying that he could hear the chicken's heart-beat. He also kept saying that he was worried that the chicken might start talking to us. Despite anything that we said to assure him the chicken was definitely dead, he was very disturbed and nervous.

Just this year we got him to the point where he could choke down meat without throwing up. I have a feeling we'll be taking a few steps back...

That is so funny. I think my kids would have the same reaction. I have never cooked a whole chicken. Has he seen the turkey at Thanksgiving?

Yeah, we've had that same debate. Kristin does better not ever seeing the whole chicken, but she's over the we eat animals fear. I cut the meat off the chicken on the stove so they don't have to see it. Still, not her favorite, but she tries not to think about it.

I do think its funny he said he could hear the heartbeat or was worried about it talking! Ha! I think it would be a bad idea to show him the giblets. :)

Don't ever send him on Pioneer Trek. We had to kill 70 chickens in one go. He'd be scarred for life, though he may already be from that Rotissory. :)
